With Frequency Cap, you can adjust the average number of times an audience will see your ad in a given period. You can control how many users see your ads, and adjust the cap in a way where you can get lower or higher frequency depending on your goals. To note, you can only apply Frequency Cap for campaigns with an Awareness objective. With that out of the way, this quick and easy guide will show you how to apply a frequency cap to your Meta Ads campaigns!

  1. Navigate to your Meta Ads Manager

  2. Start a new campaign and select "Awareness" as your objective

  3. At the Ad-Set level, under Performance goal, click to Show more options

  4. Adjust your Frequency cap

Our recommendation is to serve at least 5 impressions every 7 days, as based on some studies, there is a higher chance of someone buying your products or services if they see your brand at least 5 times.

Frequently Asked Questions on Frequency Cap in Meta Ads

What is frequency capping in Meta Ads?

Frequency capping is a feature that lets advertisers control how often their ads are shown to individual users within a specified time period. This helps prevent ad fatigue and optimize campaign performance by limiting the number of times the same person sees your ad.

How does frequency capping work in Meta Ads?

When you set a frequency cap, you specify:

  • The maximum number of times a person can see your ads

  • The time period over which this limit applies (daily, weekly, or monthly)

  • Whether the cap applies at the ad, ad set, or campaign level

Meta's system then ensures your ads won't be shown to users who have already reached this limit within the specified timeframe.

Why should I use frequency capping in Meta Ads?

Frequency capping is beneficial for several reasons:

  • Prevents ad fatigue and audience burnout

  • Optimizes ad spend by avoiding excessive exposure to the same users

  • Improves campaign efficiency and ROI

  • Maintains brand perception by avoiding oversaturation

  • Helps control CPM costs

What are the recommended frequency cap settings in Meta Ads?

Optimal frequency caps depend on your campaign objectives:

  • Awareness: 1-2 impressions per day or 4-8 per week

  • Traffic or Engagement: 2-3 impressions per day or 6-10 per week

  • Leads or Sales: 3-4 impressions per day or 8-12 per week
