Frequently Asked Questions on Linking Google Analytics with Google Search Console

Why should I link Google Analytics with Google Search Console?

Here are some benefits to link your Google Analytics with Google Search Console:

  • Gain insights into how users find and interact with your website

  • Access search query data (which queries bring users to your site)

  • Analyze landing page performance from organic search

  • Understand how users interact with your site after they arrive from search results

What are the prerequisites for linking Google Analytics and Google Search Console?

To link Google Analytics and Google Search Console:

  • You must have admin access to both Google Analytics and Google Search Console

  • Your Google Analytics property must be set up for the same website as your Search Console property

  • The website should be verified in Google Search Console

Can I link multiple Search Console properties to one Google Analytics property?

No, you cannot link multiple Search Console properties to one Google Analytics property. The relationship between Google Analytics and Search Console is one-to-one for each property. However, the reverse is possible: you can link one Search Console property to multiple Google Analytics properties. This setup allows you to view the Search Console data across different Google Analytics views or properties if needed, but you can't aggregate data from multiple Search Console properties into a single Google Analytics property.

Why am I not seeing Search Console data in Google Analytics?

You might need to troubleshoot some potential issues, such as:

  • The accounts are not linked correctly

  • Lack of admin access to both properties

  • Mismatched website protocols (http vs https)

  • Search Console property not verified

  • Analytics and Search Console properties don't match

Data may also take up to 48 hours to populate in Google Analytics after linking

Can I unlink Google Analytics from Search Console?

Yes, you can unlink the accounts at any time. Go to the Admin section in Google Analytics, click on “Property Settings,” scroll to “Search Console Settings,” and click “Unlink Search Console property.”
