How to Change Location Targeting in Google Ads

Optimising your location targeting in Google Ads is a breeze and can make a big difference in reaching the right audience. It’s all about making sure your ads are seen by the people who matter most to your business. Whether you're expanding your reach, excluding specific locations, or narrowing down on a specific area, this guide will walk you through how to change the location targeting in Google Ads.






How to Change Location Targeting in Google Ads:


  1. Select the Google Ads campaign you would like to modify

  2. Select Campaign Settings (top-right-hand-side)

  3. Navigate to Locations and select your location targeting


There are 5 options to choose from:


  • Target at Country-level (for example India)

  • Target at Regional-level (for example California)

  • Target at City-level (for example Jakarta)

  • Target at Neighbourhood-level (for example Bukit Timah in Singapore)

  • Target a Radius around a location


You can also click on Pin mode to drop the pin in your desired location and include the certain radius targeting.



Select the Location options: “Presence or Interest” or “Presence”

For instance, if your business have physical locations, you can target users within a specific distance from your business locationn and can adjust the radius size to match your service area or customer reach, ensuring a local focus and relevance. It is also useful for promoting events by targeting users near the venue.



How do I exclude certain locations from my targeting? 


You can use location exclusions in your campaign settings to prevent your ads from showing in specific areas within your broader target region. In the same Locations section, click on the Exclude tab and select Add locations to exclude. Search for the locations you want to exclude and add them to the list. 



Can I see performance data for different locations in my campaigns? 


Yes, you can view location performance data under Insights and reports > When and where ads showed > Matched Locations
