Common questions about AI generated sitelinks in Google Ads.
AI generated sitelinks are automatically created sitelink assets that Google generates using AI based on your website content, landing pages, and ad copy. They can appear alongside your ads without you manually creating them. While they can increase ad reach, you have no control over what they say — which is why many advertisers choose to disable them in favour of manually written sitelinks.
The main reasons to disable them are brand control and message consistency. AI generated sitelinks may pull copy from pages that don't align with your campaign goals, or display outdated information. If you already have well-optimised manual sitelinks in place, you may also prefer that Google shows those rather than auto-generated alternatives you haven't approved.
No. Disabling AI generated sitelinks only prevents Google from automatically creating and showing automated sitelinks. Your manually created sitelink assets remain active and continue to show as usual. In fact, disabling AI sitelinks may give your manual sitelinks more room to appear.
The AI generated sitelinks setting is found under Account-level automated assets, which means it applies across your entire account by default. This is the easiest way to disable them globally. If you only want to disable them for specific campaigns, you can manage automated asset opt-outs at the campaign level through campaign settings.
Yes. Before disabling them, you can review the automated sitelinks Google has generated by going to Assets → Account-level automated assets and viewing the Sitelinks section. This lets you see exactly what copy Google is using — helpful for deciding whether to keep or disable them.
Yes. The setting is reversible — simply go back to Assets → Account-level automated assets → More → Advanced settings and re-enable AI Generated Sitelinks. The change takes effect after saving and Google may begin generating and showing sitelinks again within a few days.
