FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Google Analytics Demo Account.

What is the Google Analytics Demo Account?

The Google Analytics Demo Account is a free GA4 property provided by Google that contains real data from the Google Merchandise Store — an actual ecommerce site that sells Google-branded products. It gives you access to a fully populated GA4 account so you can explore reports, test features, and learn how analytics works without needing your own live website data.

Is the Google Analytics Demo Account free?

Yes — completely free. Any Google account holder can access the Demo Account by visiting the Google support page and clicking the link to add it. You do not need a paid Google Analytics subscription, and there is no time limit on access.

What kind of data does the Demo Account contain?

The GA4 Demo Account contains live ecommerce data from the Google Merchandise Store including sessions, users, pageviews, events, conversions, revenue, traffic sources, device breakdown, and geo data. Because it's a real active store, the data is updated continuously — making it ideal for practising with GA4 reports, building Looker Studio dashboards, or following along with tutorials.

Can I make changes to the Demo Account?

No. The Demo Account is read-only — you can view and explore all reports, but you cannot create goals, modify settings, add users, or change the configuration. This is by design: it protects the shared data for all users. If you want to practise creating events or goals, you will need your own GA4 property.

Does the Demo Account appear in my normal Google Analytics account list?

Yes. Once you click the access link, the Demo Account is added to your Google Analytics account list and appears under a "Demo Account" account alongside any other GA4 properties you own. You can switch between your own properties and the Demo Account at any time from the account selector in the top-left of Google Analytics.

Can I use the Demo Account to build Looker Studio reports?

Yes — this is one of the best uses for the Demo Account. Because it has consistently populated data, you can connect it to Looker Studio (Data Studio) as a data source to practise building dashboards and reports without needing your own live site data. It is also useful for following along with analytics tutorials that reference specific reports or metrics.
