Common questions about radius targeting in Meta Ads.
Radius targeting (also called geo-targeting or pin targeting) lets you target people within a specific distance of any point on the map. Instead of targeting a whole city or country, you drop a pin at a location — such as your store, an event venue, or a competitor — and set a radius in miles or kilometres. Meta will then show your ads to people in that area.
Meta Ads allows a minimum radius of 1 mile (or 1 kilometre) and a maximum of 50 miles (or 80 kilometres) per pin. If you need to cover a broader area, you can add multiple pins to the same ad set and combine them.
Yes. You can drop multiple pins within a single ad set, each with its own radius. This is useful if you have several store locations or want to target a few specific areas within the same campaign. Meta will show your ads to people who fall within any of the defined radius zones.
Yes. After adding a location or dropping a pin, Meta gives you the option to exclude that area rather than include it. This lets you, for example, target a 20-mile radius around a city but exclude the central 5-mile area if you do not serve that zone.
Radius targeting via Drop Pin is available for most campaign objectives in Meta Ads, including Traffic, Engagement, Leads, and Sales. However, some objectives with highly automated placement or Advantage+ audience settings may limit manual location targeting options. Always check the Ad Set location section after selecting your objective.
Meta determines location using a combination of device GPS, IP address, profile data, and check-in signals. The accuracy is generally good for mobile users with location services enabled, but it is not precise to a few metres. A small buffer beyond your set radius should be expected, especially for users on desktop or those with limited location data.
