Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Meta Ads AI Enhancements and Advantage+ creative.

What are Meta Ads AI Enhancements (Advantage+ creative)?

Advantage+ creative enhancements are a set of AI-powered modifications that Meta automatically applies to your ad creative to try to improve performance. They include changes such as adjusting image brightness and contrast, cropping images for different placements, adding music to video ads, showing relevant comments below your ad, and rewriting ad text. Meta enables these by default, but you can turn off any or all of them individually.

Why would I want to disable AI Enhancements?

There are several valid reasons to turn them off. If your brand has strict visual guidelines, AI cropping or colour adjustments may produce off-brand results. If your ad copy has been carefully written and approved, AI text improvements can alter the message in unintended ways. Disabling enhancements also gives you a clearer picture of how your creative actually performs, without AI variables changing what users see.

Do I need to disable enhancements on every ad individually?

Yes — Advantage+ creative enhancements are set at the individual ad level, not at the campaign or ad set level. You will need to edit each ad separately to disable them. When creating new ads, you can turn off the enhancements during the ad creation process before publishing, which saves having to come back and edit after the fact.

Will disabling AI Enhancements hurt my ad performance?

Meta claims enhancements improve performance on average, but results vary by account and creative type. In practice, many advertisers find that well-crafted creative performs just as well — or better — without AI modifications, particularly when brand consistency is important. The safest approach is to A/B test: run one version with enhancements enabled and one with them disabled, then compare cost per result.

Can I disable AI Enhancements for all future ads by default?

There is no account-level setting to permanently disable Advantage+ creative enhancements for all ads. Meta re-enables them by default each time you create a new ad. You need to manually turn them off during ad creation or editing. This is a deliberate Meta product decision — the expectation is that advertisers opt out per ad rather than at the account level.

What is the difference between Advantage+ creative and Advantage+ placements?

Advantage+ creative modifies how your ad creative looks — cropping images, changing colours, adding music, rewriting text. Advantage+ placements (formerly Automatic Placements) controls where your ad appears — Facebook Feed, Instagram Reels, Audience Network, Messenger, etc. They are separate settings at different levels: Advantage+ creative is at the ad level, while Advantage+ placements is at the ad set level.
