Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about changing the homepage in WIX.

Can I set any page as the homepage in Wix?

Yes. Any page on your Wix site can be set as the homepage — including regular pages, landing pages, or pages you've created specifically as a new home. The only exception is dynamic pages, which cannot be set as the homepage because they require a URL parameter to load content.

What happens to my old homepage after I change it?

Your old homepage becomes a regular page on your site — it stays live and accessible via its URL, but it is no longer the page visitors land on when they type your domain. You can keep it, hide it from the menu, or delete it depending on your needs.

Will the URL of my new homepage be my root domain?

Yes. When you set a page as the homepage, Wix automatically maps it to your root domain (e.g. yourdomain.com). The page's original URL slug still exists in the background but the homepage will load at the root. Google Search Console may need a few days to reflect the updated homepage in search results.

Do I need to republish after changing the homepage?

Yes. After selecting Set as Homepage, you need to click Publish to make the change live. Until you publish, your site visitors will still see the previous homepage.

Can I have a different homepage for mobile and desktop?

No. In Wix, the same page is used as the homepage for both desktop and mobile. However, you can use Wix's mobile editor to customise how your homepage looks on mobile devices — hiding or rearranging elements — while keeping the same underlying page.

Will changing my homepage affect my SEO?

It can. Your homepage typically carries the most authority on your site, so switching it to a different page may affect how Google ranks your key pages. Make sure your new homepage has a strong title tag, meta description, and internal links pointing to your most important pages. Submit your sitemap in Google Search Console after publishing to help Google re-crawl the updated structure.
