Common questions about location extensions (location assets) in Google Ads.
Location extensions (now called location assets in Google Ads) display your business address, phone number, and a map pin beneath your ads. They help local businesses drive foot traffic by making it easy for nearby searchers to find and navigate to your location. Location assets are shown at Google's discretion based on relevance and ad rank.
No. Location assets are free to add — you only pay when someone clicks on your ad as usual. However, if a user clicks the directions or map link within the location asset (on mobile), that click is also charged at the same CPC as a regular ad click.
Google shows location assets when they are likely to improve ad performance and the ad ranks high enough. Common reasons they don't appear: your ad rank is too low, the search query isn't geographically relevant, the user's location doesn't match your targeted area, or there is a policy issue with your Business Profile. Make sure your Business Profile is verified and in good standing.
Yes. Location assets can be added at the account, campaign, or ad group level. Account-level assets apply across all campaigns by default. If you have multiple locations or want to show different addresses for different campaigns, apply the asset at the campaign level to override the account setting.
Location extensions display your own business's address from your Google Business Profile. Affiliate location extensions (affiliate location assets) are used by brands or manufacturers to display the addresses of third-party retailers that carry their products — for example, a brand showing nearby stores where customers can buy their product.
Yes. Your Google Business Profile must be verified before Google will display it in your ads. An unverified or suspended profile cannot be linked as a location asset. If you haven't verified your profile yet, complete the verification process in Google Business Profile Manager before setting up location extensions in Google Ads.
